Dimensional Classification
The reconstituted unedged timber batches or uneven plank batches are sold by dimensional categories, determined by the width of the central plank, measured at mid-length under bark, and not reduced to the green sawing state.
Length of the timber: 3.00, 3.50 and 4.00 m.
Width of the central plank, measured at mid length and under bark is:
* 400 mm minimum with 20% allowance, for timber with central planks of 350 to 390 mm for F-B A and F-B 1 categories,
* 350 mm with 20% allowance for timber with central planks of 300 to 340 mm for F-B 2 category,
* 300 mm for F-B 3 category.
Minimum uncovered:
Measured at plank mid-height:
For the timber:
150 mm for F-B A, 120 mm for F-B 1, F-B 2, and F-B 3.
For uneven planks:
100 mm for all categories.
F-B A:
The planks are made up of sound wood, reasonably curbed, and with practically straight grains. 70% of the planks in each batch have one regular face. A maximum of 30% of the planks in the batch may have: sound adherent knots, the occasional presence of grooves that are not straight, ingrown bark, and non-adherent sound knots, entailing the usual measurement reductions.
F-B 1:
The planks are sound wood, reasonably curbed, and with a slight tolerance for non-straight grain. 50% of the planks have one regular face. A maximum of 50% of the planks in the batch may have sound and adherent knots. Grooves that are not straight, ingrown bark and alterations entail the usual measurement reductions. Only one of the above imperfections per plank. Crizzle and rot are non-existent.
